Directions to Springfields
You are strongly advised to avoid Spalding town centre! There is now a roundabout at the turn into Springfields.
From the North: Pick up the A16 to the north of Spalding and follow it to its junction with the A151. Turn west (right) towards the town and north (right) almost immediately into Springfields.
From the South: Pick up the A16 to the south of Spalding and follow it to its junction with the A151. Turn west (left) towards the town and north (right) almost immediately into Springfields.
From the East: Pick up the A151 to the east of Spalding and follow it to its junction with the A16. Proceed towards the town (straight on) and turn north (right) almost immediately into Springfields.
From the West: Pick up the A16 to the south or north of Spalding and follow it to its junction with the A151. Follow the instructions for south or north approach to the town. Alternatively, if you find yourself on the A151 to the west of Spalding, take the B1180 at Pinchbeck West. At the T-junction with the B1356 in Pinchbeck, turn south (right). After about 2km, turn east (left) into the B1180. After about 2km, turn left at the roundabout and shortly you will join the A16 at another roundabout to the north of the town. Then follow the instructions for travellers from the north.
Car-booting at the National Show
We have been asked by the management of Springfields to make it clear that car-booting will not be tolerated at the National Show this year. By car-booting we mean the sale of any item other than by authorised persons. The following notice will appear in the schedule and be displayed on site:
The Management of Springfields insist that the selling of any goods takes place only in the marquee and show hall, and is done by authorised persons. They reserve the right to expel from the site anyone they consider to have contravened this condition.
Please respect their wishes. Thank you for your co-operation.
Local accommodation
Martyn and Jeanette Rainer have kindly volunteered to help members attending the National Show to find overnight accommodation in the area. You can contact them by post at: 13, Thornton Road, Spalding, PEll 2PS or by telephone on: 01775 712491. Should you not wish to avail yourself of their help, the Spalding Information Centre is on 01775 725468.
Show stewards
No show can be run without the help of many people. For our first major show of the new millennium we need stewards for many small jobs - including helping with the staging of the exhibits, and watching that plants are not touched by visitors. If you are willing to help in any minor but nonetheless important capacity, please contact Ron Wood, the Show Manager, at 8 Sheppersons Avenue, Gosberton Risegate, Spalding, Lincs. (tel. 01775 750324 ) with details of your availability. You will be expected to be on whatever duty you are allocated for about two hours on the day of the show.
We hope that those who are around during the setting-up and break-down phases of the show will assist the organisers.
Raffle
One of the most important sources of income for the Show is the raffle, so it is important that we sell as many books of tickets as possible. This is where you come in. If every member of the Society buys at least one book, but preferably more, we should raise the funds needed. The tickets will be ready in time for the AGM on April 8th and there will be a bundle of raffle books available for each branch. Any that are not collected from the AGM will be posted soon after. Income from the raffle makes a significant contribution to the finances of the show. Please support it!
The cash prizes (the first prize is £250) may not be in the same league as the National lottery, but you do have a much better chance of winning something. So please make a special effort to buy as many tickets as possible. If your branch has not pestered you to buy tickets by your June meeting, then you should pester them!
Sponsorship
There is still an opportunity to sponsor some of the classes in the National Show. If you are interested in sponsoring the prize money for one or more classes in the show (at £15.00 per class), please write to John Betteley, 25, Old Hall Gardens, Coddington, Newark, Notts. NG24 2QJ. Cheques should be made payable to "The British Cactus & Succulent Society". Thank you.
