Giuseppe lives on the island of Tenerife (Spain) where he moved from Sicily some 20 years ago to finish his studies on sustainable island development and management. At present he works there for several international organizations in different projects related to sustainable development, biodiversity conservation, renewable energies, light pollution, etc. He has been interested in succulents since he was a boy, and he started building a small collection at his parents' house in Sicily. After moving to Tenerife he had to start again at his new location, focusing his interest mainly on stapeliads and aloes. In 1997 he made his first trip to Yemen and he fell in love with this country, revisiting it 5 times until today. Besides Yemen, Giuseppe has travelled widely to Africa and Arabia visiting South Africa, Senegal, Oman, Socotra island, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Djibouti, Somalia, and Madagascar, studying their succulent flora and making exciting discoveries such as Echidnopsis plowesiana and Aloe orlandi. He cooperates with the Tenerife Botanical Garden and is the Spanish Representative for a number of international societies concerned with succulents.
