Aloes: The Definitive Guide

Aloe FlyerThis new book is the first comprehensive account of all known aloes, since the Gilbert Reynolds´ classic works on the aloes published in the 1950s and ´60s.

In one volume, of 720 pages, the four authors bring together all the currently accepted Aloe taxa, with descriptions, illustrations, protologue references and types with depository, distribution, habitat, and diagnostic features and relationships. Using keys to aid identification, the taxa are arranged in 10 groups based on their habit, and size from small to large. An extensive, illustrated chapter on the history of discovery, especially in tropical Africa, provides a vivid account of the avid collectors, growers and botanists who gathered plants, materials and photographs, as well as the work of current plant scientists still discovering new taxa.

Aloes: The Definitive Guide is the single most important book on aloes for succulent plant enthusiasts, hobbyists, nurserymen, research workers and libraries, and botanists. And, as so many aloes are classified as endangered, agencies responsible for trade in these remarkable plants will find this an indispensable tool.
